  • La Banca, Falkirk

The other night went out with my two best friends [we shan't go into the reasons why here], but after a beer or two we decided to go get a bite to eat.

To cut a long story short we decided upon the recently opened Tapas place La Banca, I have much to say both good and bad about this place but I shall restrain myself.

The establishment itself has been well overturned since it was formerly a bank [therefore the name], very interesting Spanish posters on the walls, Spanish news on the wide screen TVs [though I can't say if it was that or the newsreader that kept me staring at it], and a bit too much flamenco/bullfighting for my, Northern Spanish, tastes.

The food, especially the chorizo and the morcilla, was great [as is all true spanish food] I had Jamón Serrano and Pollo Asado, but I took advantage of the others fullness to gorge myself on the said chorizo [not sliced but in chunks mmmmmm], the service was fine.

However, as a person who studied in spain, I did notice the poverty of grammar/spelling in the supposedly Spanish restaurant Menu [we Spanish speakers actually call it Castillian] missing tildes, non-agreeing adjectives you know the score.

If you are not so much of as a pedant as I [in Spanish] as I you will probably have a good time!

  • German Engineering

Yes I know it's a stereotype, but to use another phrase, "there's no smoke without fire". The reputation that germany has gained for engineering comes from decades of experience in building things - cars, aeroplanes, trains, engines, everything.
It is this dedication to perfection, in finely machining tools and parts that lends itself to specialism in specific areas of expertise. Take Henckels knives, for generations this firm has been honing its skilled engineers in sharpening, hardening and tempering blades to such a high level, that they knew that they could do better than generic cutlery brands.
And when they introduced specialist kitchen knives, personally recommended by many top chefs, then you know that they are doing something right.
Don't take my word for it though.
    Try them yourself.
